Limestone, granite, marble or slate flooring?
Granite flooring
Granite is an option to assess for heavily used entrances. Naturstenskompaniet specifically distinguishes granite from limestone where de-icing salt is present. Finish and other properties are assessed for the selected product.
Slate flooring
Slate offers different textures and finishes. Offerdal and light Oppdal are included in the catalogue. Select the finish with regard to use, cleaning and adjoining materials.
Sizes, joints and skirtings shape the whole.
A floor needs planning around room dimensions, sightlines and junctions with other finishes. The stone layout shows the distribution of full tiles, cut pieces and joints.
Specify the skirting height, visible top edge and details at doors and corners. For phased works, material selection needs to be maintained across deliveries. Sample areas can be used to review the overall result before larger areas are laid.
The substrate is part of the flooring solution.
Flatness, moisture and movement in the substrate influence the construction and installation products. Build-up depth and interfaces need checking before stone sizes and thicknesses are confirmed.
Substrates and installation
Mortar bedding or adhesive fixing is selected for the construction. Stone, substrate and installation products must work together. Drying and other requirements are verified before laying.
Underfloor heating and movement
Natural stone can be combined with underfloor heating. Floor build-up, movement joints and heating operation need coordinating. Commissioning follows the instructions for the specific construction.
Finish and care
Finishes are selected with regard to slip risk, wear and cleaning. Limestone and marble are sensitive to acids; follow the care advice for the selected stone. Entrances require particular attention to grit, moisture and salt.
Deliveries and laying planned around the project.
Where a building remains in use during the works, areas, transport and barriers need phased planning. We coordinate work areas, access and handover with the project team.
Labelling and packing can follow rooms, floors or phases. Materials, layout and workmanship are checked against approved information during production. Protective covering and responsibility for subsequent works need to be agreed before the area is handed over.

Terrazzo flooring with colour and aggregate at its heart.
Terrazzo is a composite material in which aggregate creates the floor’s pattern. Prefabricated tiles can be combined with skirtings and stair cladding for a coordinated appearance. Compare colour, aggregate size, finish and format using samples.
State whether the enquiry concerns prefabricated tiles or in-situ terrazzo. The methods have different requirements for layouts, junctions and installation. In-situ work needs to be assessed as a separate project scope.
For tiles, substrates, build-up depth, joints and installation products need coordinating with the chosen product. Request care instructions and state whether the surface will be exposed to moisture, salt or outdoor conditions.

Can we enquire about terrazzo flooring?
Yes. State your preferred colour, finish, quantity and whether the documents specify prefabricated tiles or in-situ terrazzo. Specification, availability and scope are reviewed for the project.
Can you supply only the flooring stone?
Yes. You can request material supply only or include installation. State the area, material preferences and delivery location so we can define the scope in our quotation.
Can stone flooring be combined with underfloor heating?
Yes, with a suitable floor construction. Substrate, installation products, joints and heating commissioning need coordinating. Mention underfloor heating in your initial enquiry.
Which stone suits an entrance?
Assess wear, moisture, grit and any salt exposure alongside the preferred finish and maintenance. Materials need selecting for the specific entrance; one solution does not suit every setting.
Can we request skirtings in the same stone?
Yes, request matching skirtings with the floor. Specify height, lengths, visible edge and total linear metres. Details and the possibility of coordinated selection are confirmed before ordering.
What affects the price of a stone floor?
Material, size, finish, quantity, laying pattern, preparation and the number of details affect the price. For installation, access, phases and site conditions are also considered.
Can we compare samples before ordering?
Yes. State the preferred stone, finish and delivery address in your sample request. We confirm availability, any cost and delivery. A sample is indicative and does not show the stone’s full natural variation.
