Terrazzo
Prefabricated stair cladding is available as treads, risers and combined tread-and-riser units. Colour and aggregate allow the stairs to be coordinated with landings and terrazzo floors.
New builds and refurbishment
Describe whether the cladding will be installed on a new structure or replace an existing finish. This affects site measurement, preparation and available build-up depth.

Show the stair geometry and finished levels. Tread depths, riser heights, landings and adjoining floors need coordinating before fabrication dimensions are confirmed.
Visible ends, nosings, joints, skirtings and railing cut-outs affect appearance and production. Labelling by flight and floor makes the order easier to track through delivery and installation.

Slip resistance and contrast
State the project requirements for slip resistance and contrasting markings. Terrazzo steps are available with markings and slip-resistant nosings; the solution is selected for the product and setting.
Substrates and levels
Check the structure, existing finishes and space for cladding and installation. In refurbishment, the first and last steps also need checking against finished floor levels.
Exterior use
State whether the stairs will be exposed to rain, frost or salt. Documented material properties, surface performance and drainage need assessing for the application. Not all terrazzo products are intended for exterior use.

Compare colour, aggregate and finish using samples. Stair cladding can be coordinated with floor tiles, landings and skirtings, but available specifications and the ability to match different components need confirming before ordering.

It depends on the product and construction. For exterior use, materials, finishes and documented properties need assessing against frost, moisture and other exposure. State the intended setting in your enquiry.
Can the stairs and floor have a matching appearance?
This can be coordinated through material, colour and finish. The ability to match steps, landings, floors and skirtings is confirmed for the chosen products. Compare samples of the relevant components.
